WARWICK TOWNSHIP Participation in Warwick Township’s recycling program is easy. Just find a convenient place to store your recycling bin, prepare your materials as described below, place them in the bin, and put the bin out when and where your refuse hauler designates. You will not need to separate bottles and cans by color or type, but may store those items together in the recycling bin and put out the bin on collection day with the recyclables mixed together (Newspaper must be bundled or bagged and put on top of the bin or at its side). Leaf & Yard waste is designated as a recyclable material by DEP. Therefore, this material may not be burned. Your hauler will collect this material (contact your hauler for information on preparing this material for collection), or you may take it to Warwick Township’s Leaf & Woody Yard Waste Drop-off Site. For more information on Warwick Township's recycling program, as well as information on the Township's burning guidelines, household hazardous waste, and battery recycling, please review our recycling pamphlet (PDF format).
PLASTIC FOOD AND BEVERAGE CONTAINERS should be rinsed and lids removed. You do not need to take off labels. Yogurt containers, butter tubs, or other containers without a “neck” are not acceptable. How do I participate in the recycling program? It's easy to participate. Just find a convenient place to store your recycling bin, prepare your materials as described below, place them in the bin, and put the bin out when and where your refuse hauler designates. Remember, glass, aluminum and all other food and beverage cans, and newspaper are the materials that may be recycled in this program. When should I put out my recycling bin? Though recycling pickup is available every week, making the program very convenient, your are encouraged to put out your recycling bin only when it is full, or nearly full. Recycling trucks will make fewer stops and collection will be faster. Your recyclable materials and your trash are collected on the same day. What should I do if I live in an apartment? Those who rent apartments in buildings with three or fewer units will receive recycling bins. Those who live in larger buildings will not. It is the responsibility of the apartment complex owner or Manager, not the Township, to provide a recycling program for apartment dwellers. Who should I call if I have questions about the recycling program? Call or stop in the Warwick Township office, 315 Clay Road, Lititz, telephone number 626-8900. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority - the organization that handles our trash after refuse haulers deliver it to county facilities - no longer will accept leaves and grass clippings mixed in with trash. Therefore, leaves and grass clippings will have to be separated from the rest of your trash.
All licensed haulers in Warwick Township will be required to provide separate yard waste collection for their customers. Yard waste - leaves, grass and garden clippings - will be picked up each week during regular trash collection. Yard waste must be placed in trash cans or bags and not mixed with other trash for collection. Since your refuse hauler has to collect yard waste separately, he will add extra trucks to his route - and, in all likelihood, make additional charges for picking up yard waste. The Township encourages residents to begin making changes in lawn care habits. There is no reason to remove grass clippings from lawns. Clippings will filter down to the soil, where they reduce water evaporation and lawn wear and encourage growth by keeping the soil temperature cooler. As it decomposes, grass acts as a natural fertilizer. These small changes in habits will save you a great deal of money over the years. More important, they will lessen the strain on our solid waste facilities and programs, which will result in more cost-effective service and better environment for us all.
